 EMOTION

"The use of the word 'Emotion' in English psychology is comparatively modern. It is found in Hume, but even he speaks generally rather passions or affections. When the word emotion did become current its application was very wide, covering all possible varieties of feeling, except those which are, purely sensational in their origin".

The only child of a woman dies in a road accident. She is so much disturbed by a pathetic incident that she sits like a statue for days together, completely motionless. Then one day her dead body is found inside a well. An old man at last is reunited with his long lost son. He just cries and cries mot out of misery but in happiness, the second one of happiness, joy, and pleasure. Thus, emotions make life interesting as well as distressing, pleasant as well as unpleasant, happy. Sometimes emotions being distress and disaster in human life, disorganize, disturb the in tire life pattern. At other times, it rebuilds functions and organizes activity. The emotion of love, happiness and joy help in uniting and reuniting many friends, relations, couples and marriage partners.

Without emotions, life would have been dull and colorless, devoid of charm. Emotions are also responsible for finest human characteristics as well as for the most horrible and mean things of life. Emotion makes life pleasurable as well as miserable. James said that "Emotions are reflexes. They arise as a result of stimuli that have symbolic meaning to the individual". He emphasized that nothing is immutable about an emotion and that emotions are mot to be described and classified rigidly.

The term emotion has been derived from the Latin word E-Mover, means to move, to stir up, to agitate, to excite and to arouse oneself. This arousal of self creates an urge towards action. It is a very complex, disturbed state of the organism.

Emotions are very common in our lives; it can be either aggression, sad and anxious. When we are living in the world we should face it.
