It's the basic instinct of all beings. pleasure is something
which appeases the being. Basically everything in this universe is
striving for pleasure even the human beings.we can't describe it
verbally.it's always relative.what's that is pleasure for me may not
give pleasure for another. So it depends. Plants, mammals, animals and
all, struggle for this pleasure. Pleasure can experienced in different
stages:physically,mentally,intellectually and psycologically.when
struggles for this pleasure, there arise a great chaos between the
beings. there the harmony of morality get disturbed. The whole problem
of universe started in search of this pleasure. Pleasure describes
the broad class of mental states that humans and other animals
experience as positive, enjoyable, or worth seeking. It includes more
specific mental states such as happiness, entertainment, enjoyment,
ecstasy, and euphoria. In psychology, the pleasure principle describes
pleasure as a positive feedback mechanism, motivating the organism to
recreate in the future the situation which it has just found
pleasurable. According to this theory, organisms are similarly
motivated to avoid situations that have caused pain in the past.
Epicurus and his followers defined the highest pleasure as the absence
of suffering,[5] and pleasure itself as "freedom from pain in the body
and freedom from turmoil in the soul".[6] According to Cicero , he
also believed that pleasure was the chief good (and, conversely, that
pain was the chief evil).[7]
In the 12th century, Fakhr al-Din al-Razi's Kitab al Nafs Wa'l Ruh
analyzed the different types of pleasures as sensuous and
intellectual, and explained their relations with one another.[8] He
concludes that human needs and desires are endless, and "their
satisfaction is by definition impossible."[9]
The 19th-century German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer understood
pleasure as a negative sensation, as it negates the usual existential
condition, that of suffering.[10]
Utilitarianism and Hedonism are philosophies that advocate increasing
to the maximum the amount of pleasure and minimizing the amount of
suffering.
Morality and pleasure are directly linked "Why do (we) need morality?
To make the right decisions. What are the right decisions? Those which
create pleasure, not pain." (Lizard) Morality is, by extension, human
nature. Morality is not an ever-present truth. It is constantly
changing. It was considered a moral practice to own slave in the
1700's, because a slave was seen as inferior and as needing guidance.
Now, however, it would be wildly immoral to consider owning a slave.
Morality changes with whatever brings the most pleasure at the time.
The entire thought process, our actions, and human morality is a
direct result of our quest for pleasure. Pleasure is the active force
in all human achievements. Our continued drive for pleasure has led us
from caveman to the current technological might we have achieved, and
it will only continue to drive us to new heights. We might even reach
a time in the future where only pleasure exists, which could be seen
as the ultimate goal of humanity. It is pleasure that pushes man
forward, pleasure that is the goal of humanity, pleasure that is the
essence of man.
