ASSERTIVENESS, Sathish A.

ASSERTIVENESS, Sathish A.

The act of asserting is called "assertiveness" and it can also mean something that is declared or stated positively, often with no support or attempt at proof. In one phrase, we could say is, "inclined to bold or confident assertion," and if, in one word we could say is "aggressively self – assured." Further, if we go on in search of the word meaning we would be able to find that it means to maintain, declare positively or with assurance. And in another sense, it can mean to present demandingly, as to assert a RIGHT or CLAIM. More personally, it means to come forward and speak out as, to assert oneself, which indicates how to build up one's self – esteem in the society in which one lives.

There are also a few words which gives similar meaning to the word 'assertiveness' they are "maintain" for example, we assert anything to be true; we maintain it by adducing proofs, facts, or arguments. And another word is "vindicate" for instance, we vindicate our own conduct or that of another when it is called in question. We can also find out the act of asserting that which is asserted in the statements that we utter because usually, when we state a statement we do not assure if we are not certain whereas if we are sure of what we saying we try to say strongly with full assurance.

And therefore, 'assertiveness' refers to the quality of being firm, resolute and strong – willed. It helps a person to stand up and fight against the events and to achieve one's aim in life. It can be cultivated by developing a positive outlook on life and accepting failures with calmness and courage. If we do so I assure that our life on earth will be of worth – living and enjoying the life in fullness with self – esteem and self – respect. Here we come to the end of the idea or explanation of the word 'assertiveness' the act of asserting that which is asserted not merely in the words but in the statements that we make or utter.

Finally, I would like to conclude this article with the quotation of one of the great philosophers of contemporary western philosopher, Wittgenstein, "whatever you speak, speak it clearly otherwise please pass over in silence."
