EGOISM, Jithin Kalan.

EGOISM

Egoism is the prescriptive doctrine that all persons ought to act from their own self-interest.  "Egoism is the very essence of a noble soul." Said by Friedrich Nietzsche. There is no word more generally misinterpreted than the word egoism, in its modern sense. Egoism can be defined as concern for one's own interests and welfare. Egoism has both positive and negative sides. Positive side is that self-interest is the just and proper motive for all human conduct, and negative side is excessive concern for oneself with exaggerated feelings of self-importance

In philosophy, egoism is the theory that one's self is, or should be, the motivation and the goal of one's own action. Ethical egoism is the normative theory that the promotion of one's own good is in accordance with morality. In the strong version, it is held that it is always moral to promote one's own good. In the weak version, it is said that although it is always moral to promote one's own well, it is not necessarily never moral to not.  There are five kinds of egoism related to moral philosophy they are Descriptive and Psychological Egoism, Normative Egoism, Rational Egoism, Conditional Egoism and finally ethical egoism. Psychological egoism describes human nature as being wholly self-centered and self-motivated. The second variant of egoism is normative in that it stipulates the agent ought to promote the self above other values. Rational egoism claims that the promotion of one's own interests is always in accordance with reason. Ethical egoism claims that it is necessary and sufficient for an action to be morally right that it maximize one's self-interest. Ethical egoism differs in content from standard moral theories. It might appear that it differs a great deal. They sometimes require uncompensated sacrifices, particularly when the loss to the agent is small and the gain to others is large. Ethical egoism generates many of the same duties to others. Ego is an essential to live fruitfully and beautifully. Never allow ego to rule us that can lead us to pride. So be a balanced human being.
